Power & Policy: Understanding Wind Turbine Tech for Local Governments

Learn to assess the variable impacts of wind projects and create effective, sustainable policies for your community. Bridging the gap between complex turbine technology and effective local policy.

Different turbine architectures will be shown. Design options and choices of wind turbine manufacturers and project developers will be explained. These choices determine the economics of the project. But, the same choices also determine the impacts to the direct environment, like visual hinder and noise pollution. Turbines are increasing in size. The larger scale improves the economics. But, also raises the local impacts.

The wind is a variable energy source. The course will explain how wind speed, wind direction and turbine technology play a role on the actual variable actual noise immission levels around the turbine. These actual noise immission levels will deviate from the annual average value. Next the uncertainty of modelling and predicted values will be explained.

The course will give you a better understanding of technology choices and place you in a better position to balance the impact to different interests.
